The Fixed Income Group is seeking an experienced bond trader for its U.S Rates desk, who will be responsible for identifying investment opportunities and transacting in the US Rates market.  The trader will work with 4 rates traders, located in Los Angeles and London.  Capital Fixed Income Investors (CFII) has been managing fixed-income strategies since 1973 and has over $320bn in assets under management.  We have an experienced team of 32 traders in Los Angeles, London, Singapore and New York. This position can be based in Los Angeles or New York.

Primary responsibilities/essential functions:

  • Investigates and identifies investment opportunities in the US Rates market, generating long term trading strategies and executing trades on a daily basis.
  • Analyzes market data and risk to inform Fixed Income investment and trading process.
  • Works with technologists to develop and monitor portfolio risk reports and security models to enable and influence real-time trading decisions.
  • Stays up to date on industry trends, securities and regulatory issues and may publish updates on market developments, market moves, interest rate developments and/ or federal policy for Capital’s Fixed Income investment group.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, with investment group colleagues and sell side counter-parties
  • Collaborate with Capital’s investment professionals worldwide to discuss market trends and investment strategies 
  • Liaise with Investment Operations and other fixed income business units to maintain order flow integrity, monitor risk and improve communication
  • Perform additional responsibilities and undertake special projects as assigned

Skills/qualifications:

  • 5-10 years prior Rates trading experience with knowledge of derivatives, volatility and cross-market rates relative value
  • Self-starter and team player with excellent communication skills
  • Proficient with Excel and other analytical tools
  • Able to work calmly, flexibly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong relationship building and negotiation skills
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in business, economics or other quantitative major
