As one of our Investment Directors, you’ll engage with external clients as a proxy for our portfolio managers. You’ll represent Capital Group at speaking events, sales meetings, and point of sale presentations. You’ll serve as the primary contact to clients in delivering investment expertise and capital markets perspective with regard to ESG.  You’ll excel at conducting robust quantitative/qualitative research to produce differentiated insight about our ESG capabilities.


You are a proven ESG expert who demonstrate expert knowledge of many aspects of ESG, including investment and regulatory challenges and opportunities. The ESG Investment Director will marry this ESG market knowledge with a deep understanding of Capital Group’s investment philosophy and approach to ESG, partnering with the ESG team to lead our external engagement with clients, prospects and the broader market. 


You will engage in the creation of the ecosystem that enables CG to engage constructively with clients on the subject of ESG. You are able to work independently as an experienced sole contributor, while also having a track record of building teams – both with clear lines of accountability, and where teams are informal and require influencing for success. You understand the importance of mindful communication when working within an inclusive environment, and take the time to create and maintain meaningful relationships. You are motivated by setting goals and measuring your performance against them. You are a well-rounded collaborator and work skillfully with senior sales force members to provide opportunity for better investor outcomes.


The Global Head of ESG at CG will be a key partner, as will the leads of the Client Groups, the broader ESG team, and the asset class business development leads. Externally, client and prospect conversations will cover a range of different client types, including institutional and intermediary, and ESG at CG is equally applicable to equity, fixed income and multi-asset, so the Investment Director must be able to speak across asset classes. You will author thought leadership on the topic and appear at industry events.

Primary responsibilities/essential functions: 


Knowledge of CG’s ESG strategy and execution


  • The Investment Director will be integrated with the ESG team, in particular the Global Head of ESG, with a focus on understanding CG’s ESG strategy and how it is executed
  • Able to author and build materials that communicate this across channel. 


Knowledge of ESG

  • Has deep knowledge of ESG policy, regulation, norms and client expectations.  They should be able to communicate these clearly to clients, and be able to lead client conversations with ESG insights.
  • Able to participate on external ESG forums and investor groups representing CG views.


Evolution of ESG capabilities

  • The ID will be in step with any evolution of ESG strategy, and assists with positioning these changes to clients
  • Participates in conversations about the evolution of our ESG strategy to bring the voice of the client


Ways of working

  • Responsible for bringing new strategy, communication and ideas to the Head of ESG, and for partnering to establish ways of working that are scalable and repeatable. This also includes use of the Head of ESG and other ESG team members in external meetings including with clients, press and industry events
  • Be the point person with internal stakeholders for ESG, including IPS, Product communications, Marketing and client teams, RFP, PR. The ID will synthesise thoughts of a diverse group to produce a consistent message through presentations and/or written materials, including driving the creation and maintenance of ESG content, including its inclusion in new business books, specific client queries, analysis of product health and commercial outlook.


Client engagement

  • Acts as a lead for client engagement on ESG matters, engages with clients, consultants, other intermediaries and fellow associates to raise and retain assets across CG’s range of strategies
  • Informs and educates clients on CG’s approach to ESG
  • Works with the broader NACG team to train them to be “fluent” in ESG

  • Demonstrates expertise in synthesizing information, writing quarterly insights or papers, and presenting it in a distilled manner.
