You will work directly with your manager to decide what that looks like for you.

 

As a Software Engineer within the Investment Group Technologies organization, you will build systems, services and tools that improve the lives of tens of millions of people every single day. You will also independently implement new features adhering to those designs in a highly collaborative work environment alongside product managers, Technical Program Managers (TPM) and fellow engineers.

 

You are passionate about working with diverse data sets and be someone who loves to bring data together to answer business questions. You will build data analytical solutions that will address increasingly complex business questions. You will have the opportunity to identify and fix architecture deficiencies and proposes larger projects, which may require leading the team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Drive architectural plans and implementation for future data storage, ETL, reporting, and analytic solutions.
  • Build large-scale distributed data processing systems, data lakes, and optimize for both computational and storage efficiency on cloud platforms like AWS.
  • Design, implement and automate data pipelines sourcing data from internal and external systems, transforming the data for the optimal needs of various systems.
  • Design data schema and operate cloud-based data warehouses and SQL/NoSQL/temporal database systems.
  • Own the design, development and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. to drive key business decisions.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in software development, data engineering, business intelligence, data science, or related field with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets.
  • Experience at implementing and operating stable, scalable data flow solutions from production systems into end-user facing applications/reports.
  • Experience using SQL or Python
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Hbase, Spark, EMR, etc.
  • Great business and communication skills to be able to work with business owners to develop and define key business questions and to build data sets that answer those questions.
  • Experience identifying ambiguous problem areas in existing or new software initiatives
  • Balances short versus long-term trade-offs between engineering team needs vs business needs
  • You can put yourself into your customer's shoes. You frequently immerse yourself in the customer experience to understand how you can better serve them.
