NOTE: Our recruiting process is 100% virtual, which should help with the logistics of your candidate journey. We have transitioned to a hybrid work model, which means our associates are working from home the majority of the time, and coming into the office 20% of the month. You will work directly with your manager to decide what that looks like for you.

We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a team that builds data services and applications.  Our investment analysts and portfolio managers will use these services to make better investment recommendations and decisions.  This role will collaborate directly with senior investment professionals and technology associates to create and implement detailed quality technical designs for moderately complex applications using existing and emerging technology platforms.

In this role you will lead the development of a self-service data exchange. The data exchange enables low-cost and low-latency access to data by engineering and science teams, enabling development of next generation investment management tools. The ideal candidate for this leadership role will be passionate about our mission and will drive for superior long-term investment results through the application of modern engineering and data management methods, and a solid understanding of management science and principles.

  • Be a leader of a software development team, developing and growing individual team members as well as expanding your scope by building out the leadership capabilities of the team.
  • Reinforce company and organizational values, think and plan strategically, lead the definition of your team’s culture, and drive team execution.
  • Drive cross-organizational initiatives and lead through influence, not through direction.
  • Continuously improve processes, frameworks, team dynamics, and organizational values.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team.
  • Organize the team to be effective and efficient through a metrics-driven analytical approach.
  • Be a hands-on manager, architecting, designing, and coding along with your team members.  Provide feedback in design reviews and code reviews.

  • Extensive prior experience as a software engineer, with solid understanding of software engineering best practices (e.g. Agile software development, test-driven development, unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, etc…)
  • Experienced manager of software engineers required, with experience leading multiple teams through other managers preferred.
  • Computer Science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms and complexity analysis.
  • Passionate about management, leadership, and management science.
  • Outstanding communication skills, ability to establish and maintain a close working relationship with distributed team members and business partners.
  • Knowledge of design patterns including distributed systems design and OOD.
  • Conversant with current technologies applied in the fields of machine learning, data science, NLP and/or AI preferred
  • Knowledge of data stores, SQL and No-SQL preferred.
  • Experience with AWS services (S3, containers – ECS & EKS, ElasticSearch, Lambda) preferred.
