The Application Services team is responsible for developing solutions that enable our business to reach both their short term and long term objectives. This Application Services role will support the American Funds Service business within Capital Group. We value ingenuity, engineering discipline, and a collegial spirit, in building or assembling best in breed solutions for our business.

The Application Development Specialist plays a key role in providing technical leadership across multiple teams and platforms. The role can lead to a specialization on a platform or capability, or can lean towards a broader focus working across technologies and platforms.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creates technical vision in conjunction with internal business and technology partners and vendors
  • Identifies and assesses emerging trends and leads implementation of new technologies.
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates technology risks and skill gaps.
  • Influences business technology roadmaps by providing solution leadership, drawing on extensive technical, business, industry and/or product knowledge.
  • Translates complex and cross-functional business needs into technology solutions
  • Coordinates across teams to create and document advanced technical designs and provide best effort estimates


  • Bachelor’s Degree containing high mathematical and computing content (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Physics)
  • Minimum 10 years of software development experience utilizing one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: C/C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, Go, Objective-C , Node.js and/or Swift
  • Hands-on experience building modern web applications, with experience deploying to public or private clouds such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Openstack
  • Experience architecting and developing large scale system design
  • Strong verbal communication skills including demonstrated ability to effectively translate technical concepts, solutions design and implications to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to effectively influence and shape technology direction
